Welcome to the 2015 yarn clubs – the Best of British.
Bobbie and I have been increasingly impressed by the quality and range of British wools available. The last year has seen lots of changes in the shop as these have replaced yarns which are spun abroad. We’re incredibly fortunate in having several mills within a short drive of home. That’s made it easy to source some amazing yarns which are British through and through.
2015 is the first year that our club yarns will be completely British – and we’re thrilled that we’ve been able to do this.
There’s one big change to the clubs for 2015. Until now we’ve posted parcels out each month, however increasing postage costs mean it makes sense to send parcels out every other month. However we know that some of you get through yarn fast, so rest assured we’ve got that covered too.
Parcels for all clubs will be posted for the start of January, March, May, July, September and November.
There will be two yarn options for the sock clubs and multi coloured clubs.
Option 1 is our 4ply British sock yarn 75% British wool, 25% nylon. This has 400 meters to each 100 grams.
Option 2 is our 4ply Britsock yarn with 40% British BFL, 20% British Wensleydale, 20% British alpaca and 20% nylon. This has 400 meters to 100 grams.
The mini skein clubs will be on the British sock yarn base.
The Sock Clubs
In 2015 we’ll be offering 2 sock clubs, each with six yarns and patterns.
We’re delighted that Rachel Coopey will be carrying on the tradition of designing gorgeous socks for us. You can find more of Rachel’s work here. Rachel’s six designs will be based on British puddings, and the semi solid coloured yarns will come from the warm end of the colour palette.
We’re also thrilled to be introducing a new sock club designer – Aurelie Colas. You can find more of Aurelie’s work here. Aurelie’s six designs will be based on British inventors and scientists, and the semi solid coloured yarns will come from the cooler end of the colour spectrum.
Club patterns will be exclusive to club members for 3 months. Patterns will be emailed to you and can be stored in your Ravelry library. The colours will be exclusive to club members and there are no plans to add them to the range in the shop.
You’ll receive 100 grams of your chosen yarn which gives you 400 meters to knit with. If you need a little more yarn than that we can add an extra 20 grams to your parcel, so those knitting for big feet can relax.
You can choose to sign up for all six months of both or either designer, or you’ll be able to pay for a single month at a time. We’re happy to invoice you every other month to make sure you never miss a club parcel.
For each sock club theme, each instalment of yarn and pattern will cost £19.00 for the British sock yarn option, or £22.00 for the Britsock option for UK customers. Should you prefer to go for the yarn only, it will cost £15.50 for the British sock yarn option, or £18.50 for the Britsock option. These prices include UK postage. For Europe we need to charge an extra £1 and for the rest of the world an extra £2. If there will be more than one skein of yarn in your parcel each month we’ll refund £3 per additional skein to you. If you want to add the extra 20 grams of yarn to your parcel this will cost £3.00 regardless of the yarn base.
The Multi Coloured Clubs
My theme for 2015 is going to be ‘I do like to be beside the seaside’, and I have lots of plans for some gloriously multi coloured yarns.
I’m going to link with the sock clubs by dyeing two sets of six colours, one based on warm colours the other on cooler shades.
You can choose to sign up for the warm and cool colours so you’ll receive two skeins of yarn every two months. If that’s a little too much yarn you can choose between warm and cool colours.
For each colour theme, each instalment of yarn will cost £15.50 for the British sock yarn option, or £18.50 for the Britsock option for UK customers.
The Mini Skein Club
After a sell-out year in 2014 the only change to the mini skein club is the yarn base – we’ll be using our fantastic 4ply British sock yarn. Each mini skein set will have 7 x 10 gram skeins, so you’ll have 70 grams and 280 meters of colour to play with.
The mini skein club will be available in both semi solid and multi coloured options. Once again I’ll be dyeing up 6 months of warm and cools sets of each.
For UK customers each mini skein set will cost £12.00, including postage. For Europe we need to charge an extra £1 and for the rest of the world an extra £2. If there will be more than one mini skein set of yarn in your parcel each month we’ll refund £1 per additional set to you. We’ll also refund £1 per set if you’re buying any of the other clubs.
Until now we’ve never offered a discount for paying for your clubs in advance. I want to continue to make it as easy as possible for people to be able to pay for clubs.
I’m conscious that paying for a year is a chunk of money in one go. However I’m also conscious that when people pay for the whole year that I save a fair bit of time as I’m not sending invoices and so on.
So for 2015 if you buy a full years’ worth of a club in one transaction (that’s six parcels) then you’ll get a 5% discount. If you buy a full years’ worth of more than one club in the same transaction you’ll get a 10% discount
Existing Club Members
All of our current clubs will come to an end with the December instalment, so you’ll need to sign up again to keep your place. Members of the sock and fairy tale clubs are guaranteed a place in the 2015 sock and multi coloured clubs until 1st December.
Minis skein club members will get an email before 16th November asking if they want to renew their club places. This is because places for next year will be limited and we want to make sure that everyone who wants to keep their club place can.
Club sign ups will open on 16th November.
Any questions – please shout up.
